Nick orders 'Monsters vs. Aliens' pilot

"Monsters vs. Aliens"

NEW YORK -- Nickelodeon has ordered a pilot from DreamWorks Animation for a series based on the firm's recent "Monsters vs. Aliens" movie, DWA CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said Tuesday.

He mentioned the pilot order at the 37th Annual J. P. Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in Boston in an appearance that was Webcast.

DWA and Nick last week announced a deal on the co-production of "Kung Fu Panda: The Series" based on last year's DWA hit. The two also collaborate on the successful "The Penguins of Madagascar," for which, Katzenberg said Tuesday, the partners will launch an aggressive licensing campaign early next year. He said that TV hits make for some of the best licensing opportunities in the industry these days because they aren't event-driven
like movies.

He predicted DWA's annual TV business could bring in annual revenue of $40 million-$60 million and grow from there.

For 2010, DWA had previously already announced "Kung Fu Panda" and "Shrek" TV specials. On Tuesday, Katzenberg confirmed that they were both for NBC. What now has the title "Scared Shrekless" will be a Halloween special, followed by a "Kung Fu Panda" holiday special.

Disney’s Opening Weekend Surprise is quite the unique experience and it may happen to you from May 29th to the 31st.

The concept: On opening weekend You go to see Disney’s latest movie in theatres and you could be in for a celebrity appearance. This time for Up I’m really not sure what it’ll be like, but a certain producer who’s been with the studio for 14 years might have a hint…

As usual, the Up team has hidden a bunch of references such as A113 and the Pizza Planet Truck in their movie. Jonas Rivera wants you to know they’re all in there and if you find them you may just get a surprise from Pixar! Yes, we’re wondering how that works too. He promises that if you check back on June 1st, more details will be available like hints at the references and a chance to win.

Kevin Plush Coming Soon!

The Disney Store has recently put up a notice that Kevin plushes will be available soon.

It’s been discussed a lot here that people love the Dug plushes but are wondering why Kevin’s been left out. Ironically, in the movie, this creature has been thought to be extinct and in real life, it was thought the plush was not in production. Fans of the chocolate loving female bird will "help the species survive with a daily hug" starting June 16th when this 18’‘ colectible is available.

You can pre-order Kevin for $19.50 at the Disney Store website. To learn more about Up products available now, check out this post. After all, you’re going to need to stock UP for the release in 5 days before it sells out!

(Thanks, Jordan from the Pixar Planet Forums)

On a related note: Is there an Up product you’d like to see but aren’t quite sure exists? Try Zazzle, there you can customize T-shirts and the such with Up (or any other Disney-related) graphics.

Brave: New Pixar Film?

In our last post we collected Pete Docter and Jonas Rivera’s latest interviews for Up.

While looking through the conversations, we found a little tidbit that might point to a brand new Pixar feature or short film! This is the suspicious excerpt from this interview by Coming Soon:

"CS: You’ve probably been spending three or four years on this movie yourself, so do you deal with a lot of the other Pixar stuff going on in that time as well or are you able to just focus on this?
Docter:
Pretty much exclusively on this. Once in a while, we’re at these meetings where we all look at "Toy Story 3" or "Brave" or whatever and we all give comments and notes, but that’s just like a day here or there."

See that, Toy Story 3 and Brave! I for one have never heard of this project, nor do I know anything of it, for all we know it could’ve been misheard or a typo. In any case, if this is real, it could possibly be Pixar’s 2013 project or an upcoming Pixar short.

I don’t know if Pete Docter would’ve slipped a feature’s title so carelessly. Makes me wonder if Brave is a code name for The Bear and the Bow or some sort of misinterpretation of this 2011 film starring a brave princess.

Your thoughts?
